Become an intern or a volunteer
Girls Action Foundation is interested in hosting students as interns / volunteers during the fall 08 and winter 09 semesters.
In the past, Women’s Studies and Communications students from different colleges and universities have done internships with us and it was such a success we’d like to welcome more students to join our team.
These are some of the internship / volunteers positions that are open in the Fall 08 semester:
- Girls’ Club facilitator – work in a small team to plan and facilitate workshops with 11-17 year-old girls. Girls’ Club is an after-school program just for girls where we do games, creative activities, and anti-violence workshops (on self-defense, homophobia, power, racism, healthy relationships, etc). A great internship for someone who likes to work with kids.
- Kickaction.ca project assistant / blogger – Help promote this interactive website for girls & young women acting for social change. Write articles, scan for and post interesting content, organize contests with fun prizes. Communications and journalistic skills will be put to work!

Resource coordinator assistant – Contribute to Girls Action's resource coordination and development. Specifically, the intern will participate in the compilation, development, updating and archiving of resources (programs, literature, books, magazines, websites, zines, research, etc). Girls Action has three resource centres: in house, on our website, and on our sister website, kickaction.ca.
Working at Girls Action can be a great learning opportunity for young women interested in social justice, community organizing, politics, policy, fundraising, or just plain making a difference! .
Each college, university and department is different (e.g. you might have to set up a “directed studies” course with a prof to get credit for your internship).
