Girls and Equality - 2009-2012
Girls and equality: An added value – 2009-2012
What is it?
The Girls and equality program: An added value, aims to develop and apply the tools and means available to better educate girls about their rights and sensitize ethno-cultural communities about the issues and benefits of equality in the relations between men and women.
Project Activities:
- Media Arts Workshops: Each year, girls and young women from three ethno-cultural communities will participate in media arts workshops offered by Girls Action, in collaboration with Montreal partners.
The participants will be encouraged to explore their experiences related to their integration in Quebec society in terms of family relations, interactions with friends at school, etc. The artworks created will be disseminated throughout their communities and on Girls Action’s interactive website: Kickaction.ca
- Advisory committee and development of tools and resources: Each year, 3 different community organizations will merge and share their resources with each other, to help them sensitize their members to the existing stereotypes and issues surrounding equality between men and women, and to the rights of women within an ethno-cultural context. The committee will be comprised of 9 different communities over a three year period.
- Annual gathering of facilitators and members of organizations: The gathering will enable the support of a network of active change-agents in various communities by sharing resources and experiences on the issues, challenges and problems facing girls and young women of diverse ethno-cultural communities. The first gathering will take place in May 2010.
