The Bridge Project - 2009-2011
It’s a fact that there is a gap in resources for programs to deal with the multiple issues faced by immigrant girls and young women. How could we fill this gap? Girls Action is hosting a national collaboration to support immigrant girls' and young women's civic engagement.
The Bridge Project invites you to get involved if:
*you are a young woman with an immigrant or refugee experience
*you work with youth and this subject calls to you
*you work with immigrant communities and would like to start or enhance your programs with girls and young women
*you have experiences, stories or best practices that you would like to share
Join us for the discussions, information and tools exchanges to help us develop the much needed resources to fill the existing gaps.
What is The Bridge Project?
From the many experiences shared by network members, we have found that there is a gap in resources and programming that responds to the realities and issues facing immigrant and refugee girls and young women.
The vision of this project is to address this gap and to create a space for :
- Sharing and exchanging resources, program practices and key learnings ;
- Collaborations to develop resources based on these needs ;
- Raising awareness on the issues faced by immigrant girls and young women.
Who is it for ?
- Girls' program organizers and community organizations working with immigrant and refugee girls and young women ;
- Organizations who are interested in creating and/or receiving pertinent training and resource tools to support their engagement ;
- Immigrant and refugee girls and young women who want to engage in an ongoing discussion about their realities and share their stories.
How to get involved ?
- Contribute to the process: join the advisory committee ;
- Share your experiences and best practices: be part of the online group ;
- Share your stories: contribute to our young women’s zine. We want to know about your experiences with regards to immigration that may affect your involvement in society, politics, economy, etc. ;
- Participate in the Learning Across Distance conference call on issues around immigrant and refugee girls and young women in March 2010 ;
- Be part of the National Day of Action and raise awareness on the issues faced by immigrant and refugee girls and young women, as you have seen them played out in your community.
- Join and contribute to the Bridge Project's online group
